Instagram’s popularity has been on the rise over the past few years. Instagram gained 100 million monthly users from March to December last year alone. Instagram now has more daily users than Twitter.
If your parish is seeking a way to connect with youth and young adults, Instagram is a great platform. In fact, “53% of young adults ages 18-29 use the service" according to the Pew Research Center.
“Besides young adults, women are particularly likely to be on Instagram, along with Hispanics and African-Americans, and those who live in urban or suburban environments.”
Many parishes struggle to find relevant content to post consistently on their Instagram pages. Beyond the basics though, here are some suggestions for what you can do to make your page as inviting and interactive as possible:
- Instagram is ideal for posting pictures of parish events, your Parish church and grounds, Mass - especially special Masses like First Holy Communions, Confirmations, and weddings
- A great Instagram photo series could include items commonly used during Mass with short explanations about their purpose.
- Videos are easy to shoot in Instagram - you could upload video of prayers, Mass, and other parish events.
