So what is all this #NEWEVANGELIZATION about?

In his Apostolic Exhortation, Evangelii Gaudium, Pope Francis tells us:

• “All the baptized, whatever their position in the Church or their level of instruction in the faith, are agents of evangelization, and it would be insufficient to envisage a plan of evangelization to be carried out by professionals while the rest of the faithful would simply be passive recipients. The new evangelization calls for personal involvement on the part of each of the baptized. Every Christian is challenged, here and now, to be actively engaged in evangelization; indeed, anyone who has truly experienced God’s saving love does not need much time or lengthy training to go out and proclaim that love. Every Christian is a missionary to the extent that he or she has encountered the love of God in Christ Jesus: we no longer say that we are ‘disciples’ and ‘missionaries’, but rather that we are always ‘missionary disciples’" (Evangelii Gaudium, n. 120).

Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI tells us:  

• “There are regions of the world that are still awaiting a first evangelization; others that have received it, but need a deeper intervention; yet others in which the Gospel … has produced a serious crisis of the meaning of the Christian faith and of belonging to the Church.” 

How do we take part in the #NEWEVANGELIZATION?

We are called to live out the New Evangelization by recommitting ourselves to spreading the Gospel through our words and actions. As committed and dedicated Catholics, we are called to inspire those around us to rediscover their faith. And we can do this by living out the life of our faith in a way that is simple and joyful. 

Cardinal Timothy Dolan of New York tells us: 

• “The New Evangelization is accomplished with a smile, not a frown.”
