In March 1990, the Committee on Evangelization of the National Conference of Catholic Bishops (NCCB) presented plans to develop a national plan and strategy for evangelization to the NCCB Administrative Committee. After conducting a broad consultation with dioceses, state Catholic conferences, religious communities, and national organizations, the Committee on Evangelization submitted a final draft to the plenary assembly of the NCCB. Go and Make Disciples: A National Plan and Strategy for Catholic Evangelization in the United States was approved on November 18, 1992, and was authorized for publication by the General Secretary. |

One, Holy, Catholic, Apostolic Church: I Believe, We Believe
In announcing the upcoming “Year of Faith,” which celebrates the Fiftieth Anniversary of the Second Vatican Council (1962-65) and the Twentieth Anniversary of the Catechism of the Catholic Church, our then-Holy Father Pope Benedict XVI explained that “to rediscover the content of faith that is professed, celebrated, lived and prayed and to reflect on the act of faith is a task every believer must make his own (Apostolic Letter Porta Fidei, 9, October 11, 2011).” In this Pastoral letter from the beginning of the “Year of Faith,” the Diocese of Trenton joined with the Roman Catholic Church throughout the world in a period of reflection and celebration of our Catholic faith.

Nienstedt "urge[s] every priest, every deacon, every religious, every member of the faithful, every mother and father, every young adult, every high school student ... to become part of the New Evangelization ... to convey the central importance of the work of evangelization in our life as a Church, and describe how parishes are to become truly evangelizing communities of faith, so that we might be equipped as Catholics to share the love of Jesus Christ and to invite others into the greatest drama of human life--the pilgrimage of faith. " |
